Vergi Fishermen's Day Brings Everyone to the Harbor on July 10th

There are days you wait for all summer long. For us, that day is Friday, July 10th, when Vergi Harbor hosts the very first Vergi Fishermen's Day: a family event running from noon until midnight and beyond.
We've been preparing for this day for half a year. We wanted to create an event that truly speaks to who we are here on the coast: fishermen, cooks, musicians, and people of the sea. Now the program is ready — and it turned out better than we dared to dream.

What's happening?
Gates open at 12:00 and the opening ceremony starts at 13:00. The day will be hosted by Karl-Robert Saaremäe and Rait Õunapuu, who promise that nobody will have a dull moment.
The daytime program is designed for the whole family. The Aasukalda sea rescue team will show how rescue operations really work, let visitors try it themselves, and take those who want on a boat trip from the harbor to the sea. Fisherman Leo Bergström will set up his fish trap and talk about what coastal fishing looks like today. Even in a coastal village, you don't see this every day!
Children's games await the little ones, and a market stretches across the entire area: artisan ice cream, fresh bread and pastries, farm produce, hot crispy herring, and of course smoked fish — the smell of which will guide you there without a map.

Music that carries you to midnight...
At 16:00, Viivi Voorand & Lahemaa Rahwamuusikud take the stage. Expect dancing, folk melodies, and children's games, just as they used to be in coastal villages.
At 18:30, Väikeste Lõõtspillide Ühing, led by Marko Matvere, takes over the stage. VLÜ is a living legend of Estonian folk music: founded in 1989 in Pärnumaa, this group has been playing accordion tunes, dance music, and sea shanties for over 35 years. Sea shanties will ring out on the harbor quay exactly where they belong. Anyone who has heard VLÜ knows: standing still is simply not an option.

And then, as the sun begins to sink into the sea, at 22:00, Meie Mees takes the stage. The band that has had all of Estonia singing along since 1997, won the title of band of the year six years in a row, and released more albums than many can count. One hundred minutes of songs that every Estonian knows by heart. After the concert, DJ Mark Kitajev will spin records until 2 AM, so the dancing feet get a full workout.
